Elizabeth Sarah Walker is my 9th great-grandmother, and my shared common ancestor with George Wythe (Signer of the Declaration of Independence) and singer Janis Joplin.

She was born January 13, 1657 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In 1677 (age 20), she married Edward Johnston in Virginia. (Edward was born 1638 – died 1704). There is some confusion surrounding this event, because the Massachusetts marriage register documents the occasion on January 12, 1687 in Woburn, Middlesex, Massachusetts.

When Elizabeth was age 46, her mother Ann Keith passed away (d. March 9, 1703 in Kirketan, Virginia, American Colonies). The following year Elizabeth’s husband died.

Elizabeth died December 22, 1725 in New Kent County, Virginia.
