Mary Jane Palmer, my 2nd great-grandmother, was born around 1855 in Stokes County, North Carolina.

On the 1860 Census, she is living with her family in Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina.

Her brother, William Preston Palmer, was born on April 1, 1861. Then on December 13, 1862, her dad (Presley Palmer, b. 1833) died. In 1869, she gave birth to son Robert Lee Palmer.

She’s at home on the 1870 Census. The family is now at Quaker Gap, Stokes County, North Carolina.

Daughter Laura Vineece Palmer was born in 1874.

She married LeGrand Webb on October 30, 1877.

The marriage certificate mistakenly spells Legrand’s name as “Wibb”:

The couple was married by John H. Wright, the Baptist Minister:

On the 1880 Census, she is “Keeping House” with LeGrand in Quaker Gap, Stokes Co, North Carolina.

Daughter Sarah Elizabeth Webb was born in 1884. Then on June 2, 1893, she welcomed my grandfather, Jesse Franklin Webb.

Mary Jane died December 4, 1898, in Hinton, Summers County, West Virginia. She is buried at Greenbrier Burial Park, Hinton, Summers County, WV.

In 1950, she is recorded on her daughter Rinda’s marriage certificate. Rinda was getting remarried at age 71!
