William Tharp is my 5th Great-Grandfather. He was born in 1790 in Virginia. On April 15, 1804, when William was just 14 years-old, his father Benjamin (b. 1765) passed away in Salem, Harrison County, West Virginia. This perhaps led to a move for William, because the 1810 Census shows William (age 20) in Bath, Virginia.

Bath County is where his son Lewis Tharp was born in April 1816. In October 1817, he also welcomed there son Samuel C. Tharp. He remains in Bath County ten years later, as shown on the 1820 Census:
