Most of my current GedMatches converge at Legrande F Webb, my 2nd great-grandfather. He was born February 15, 1855 in Floyd County, Virginia and died October 23, 1925 in Forest Hill, Summers County, West Virginia.

The 1860 Floyd County Census (when Legrande was 5 years old) lists his Residence Post Office as Indian Valley.

On June 11, 1874, a nineteen year-old Legrande married Louisa Cock (b. 1853) in Carroll County, Virginia. Just a few years later, on October 30, 1877, at the age of 22, Legrande was wed to his second wife (and my grandmother) Mary Jane Palmer (b. 1855 – d. 1898) in Stokes County, North Carolina.

The 1880 Census shows the married couple – Legrande now age 25 – residing at Quaker Gap, Stokes County, North Carolina.

In 1884, at age 28, Legrande’s first daughter was born in Virginia – Sarah Elizabeth Webb (d. 1941). Legrande was 38 when my grandfather was born in North Carolina – Jesse Franklin Webb (b. June 2, 1893 – d. 1960).

Then sadly, on December 4, 1898, at the age of 43, Legrande lost his wife Mary Jane in Hinton, Summers County, West Virginia. Shortly after, in 1899 at the age of 44, Legrande married his third wife, Clarah Adaline Bailey (b. 1882 – d. 1938). A later marriage certificate of their son, Tilden Webb, lists his name as “Lee Grant Webb”…

Legrande & Clara’s marriage is also reflected on the 1900 Summers County Census, showing “Legran Webb” at age 45.

In 1901, Clarah gave birth to a daughter, Esta M. Webb. In 1906, at the age of 50, Legrande had a son – Lester Webb. (*Note: Lester Webb’s son, Thomas Clayton Webb, is GedMatch Kit RS8341627 & Lester’s son James William Webb is GedMatch Kit A235979. James William Webb had a daughter, Laura Webb Thomas, who is GedMatch Kit A374410.)
The 1910 Census shows a 55 year-old Legrande in Foss, Summers County, West Virginia.

On September 7, 1918 Legrande (age 63) lost his mother, Ursula Eveley Goad (b. 1834). She was still living in Floyd County, Virginia. The 1920 Census shows Legrande (now 65) back in Forest Hill.

Legrande died at the age of 70, on October 23, 1925 in Forest Hill. He was buried two days later. His occupation is shown as “Farmer” and the cause of death is listed as paralytic stroke.
